Aurora police release body camera footage of teen being rescued

On Monday, September 9, 2024, Aurora police issued a missing person alert for 15-year-old Donnel “Tupac” Tolliver. Tolliver had left his home near Laredo Street and 6th Avenue at 6:50 p.m. Sunday night and hadn’t been seen since. He was considered at risk because he functions at a 6-year-old level.
In addition to issuing the missing person alert, Aurora PD set up a command post. A team of detectives knocked on doors in the neighborhood. The Emergency Response Team canvased on foot and UTV’s in the area. The Drone Team provided aerial support. Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States provided search dogs to help.
With the help of a community member, Tupac was found in a storm drain with a cage locked over both entrances.
Aurora PD released a cut of body cam footage from the scene. The footage shows District 2 PAR officers providing Tupac with water, a snack and reassurance as they waited for Aurora Fire Department to arrive to help get him out.
Eventually, firefighters and police officers worked together to break the lock on one end of the storm drain. Tupac was transported to the hospital, but appeared unharmed in the video. At one point, officers asked him how he got in the drain; and he responded that he didn’t remember.
“This was a team effort; and we appreciate everyone who played an essential role. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and were crucial to safely locating Tupac,” Aurora PD said in a post on X.
